Kingborough’s new garbage collection contract with Violia has commenced this week, with new state-of-the-art kerbside collection trucks, the first of its kind in Tasmania. Harold Halton, Veolia’s Manager of Commercial Services – Southern Region said, “Veolia is extremely proud to have been selected by Kingborough Council to provide kerbside waste and recycling collection services to the residents of Kingborough from October 15”. “We have planned for a smooth transition and we are committed to delivering a service that will significantly influence the quality of life of local residents. “We have purchased a new fleet of vehicles to deliver a high standard of operational and environmental performance.” Four new Volvo Euro 6 trucks are being introduced, which exceed acceptable environmental emission standards. The engines will not only reduce particulate emissions, they are also significantly quieter than conventional engines. The fleet also uses the latest in state-of-theart GPS technology and six cameras offer virtual 360-degree coverage around each truck, with video recording and the ability for the driver to take photos on each of the cameras for instant upload to a web-based portal. All videos are time stamped and include exact location details. “The use of this technology in kerbside collection services has many benefits,” explained Mr Halton. “These include the reporting of service exceptions such as missed bins, overloaded bins and contaminated bins.”
