Kingborough Lions United Football Club (KLUFC) has made a significant commitment to Football (soccer) in the southern region, appointing former Football Federation Tasmania Junior Football Development Manager Ben Horgan as the club’s first full time Academy Manager.
In his new role, Ben will be responsible for junior and youth programs, including school and community football initiatives, as well as talented player identification and development.
“The club is making a serious investment in junior and youth development and with the best facilities in southern Tasmania and further plans for development at Lightwood Park, I’m excited to be a part of it”, Horgan said.
The club’s range of programs will boost the participation of youth and junior players in the region as well as providing coaches with full-time support, helping to develop the NPL and WSL players of the future.
Ben has coached a number of boys and girls state teams over the past six years at the FFA National Youth Championships while coaching in FFT’s Talented Player programs.
He has also worked in Community Coach Education as a course presenter.
His interests lie in player and coach development, a factor that attracted him to the role at Kingborough.
“We are aiming to deliver the highest quality player development programs in the state through our Young Lions Academy.
“I’ll be working with the coaches and players within the club but I also want to support community coaches from clubs throughout the Kingborough, Huon and Channel region so that all young players have access to high quality training and playing opportunities.
“We want to see football thriving so that we maximise participation and help all players to achieve their potential in the sport,” Horgan said.
Places in the Young Lions Youth Academy, ages 13 to 18 and the junior programs, age’s five to twelve are filling fast.
The programs re-commence in Term 1 and parents of players looking to get involved with the development opportunities on offer should direct enquiries to Ben Horgan on 0406 533 031 or email ben.horgan@klufc.org.au
