Kingston Beach Surf Life Saving Club (KBSLSC) has been presented with two awards for the 2018/2019 season of Surf Life Saving Tasmania’s (SLST) Awards of Excellence, held at MONA on Saturday, August 10.
KBSLSC has obtained the top award of being named the Premier Club as well as being awarded the Community Education Program of the Year for their Lifesaver’s Without Limits program.
The Premier Club Award is awarded to the best lifesaving club in Tasmania each year with clubs assessed on their ability to carry out the aims of Surf Life Saving Tasmania (SLST) in providing lifesaving services to the public of Tasmania.
To this end the award is calculated on issues that directly affect a club’s ability to offer excellence in its operations including, patrolling services, surf lifesaving, surf sports, administration and club health.
With tough competition from the 14 other surf lifesaving clubs around Tasmania, taking out the Premier Club award is a great achievement for the young Kingston Beach club, especially while battling for many years to get a permanent home.
Club Vice-President Philippa Lohrey, is absolutely thrilled with the result and congratulates the efforts of all members of the club in being recognised for such an outstanding achievement.
“It is just exceptional that we can win such an award whilst we are still working towards getting a place to call our own.
“Our club is all heart, our foundation is our people, our community and our commitment to service, our identity is not linked to bricks and mortar,” said Ms Lohrey.
A much-needed Kingston Beach patrol and first aid room is currently under construction and will be ready for patrolling this summer while KBSLSC is still actively working towards securing a training space and club room.
Ms Lohrey, who has won the SLST Surf Lifesaver of the Year award twice, says Kingston Beach is continuing to grow in all areas and there are some very exciting times in store for the club.

Ms Lohrey and club Training Manager, Bridget Fasnacht were also pleased to accept the Community Education Program of the Year award for their Lifesavers Without Limits program. (PS)
