Australia’s first Marine Discovery Centre, Woodbridge has received a major upgrade just in time for the 40th birthday re-opening celebration held on Wednesday, August 21.

Woodbridge school students and staff were in attendance along with Minister for Education and Training, Jeremy Rockliff who applauded the $900,000 investment by the State Government into the unique learning space.

“These upgrades make the centre more accessible and provide a hands-on experience with engaging materials and programs for students” said Minister Rockliff.

“Field centres such as this are a unique and exciting way to engage students in learning, increasing participation and engagement.

“At least 200,000 students have visited the Centre over its 40 years, creating a better understanding and appreciating of our ocean environment”.

Woodbridge School Principal Shannon Bavage reopened the centre and welcomed the community to the event.

“We really have a fantastic facility which inspires an interest in marine sciences on our doorstep and the interactive, hands on displays are really engaging,” said Principal Bavage in the Woodbridge School Newsletter.
