Margate Primary School celebrated the 150th anniversary of the school with the community at a special assembly on Wednesday October 31.
Alongside the current classes of eager learners sat past students and staff, including former principal Ken Hunt who led the school through their 125th anniversary.
Past staff in attendance included Ros Hughes, Sue McKibbon, Anne Briggs, Jane Martyn, Judy Magill, Jillian Coe, Cassie Steele, Louise Bird and Jennie Gouldthorpe who have collectively accumulated over 100 years of experience at the school.
Notable public figures were also in attendance including the Mayor of Kingborough, Cr Dean Winter and Senator Catryna Bilyk.
The assembly looked back over the past century and a half of education in Margate with small groups of students and class groups showcasing specific decades or significant events throughout history for the school and the Channel area such as the 1967 bushfires.
The students entertained guests with a narrated performance of a historical classroom environment, complete with raps on the knuckles for a dirty face and a dunces cap.
Many students wore historical clothing and costumes for the day covering the decades that the school has been running.
After the assembly, guests were able to enjoy a range of treats from the Garden Café, including a special 150th anniversary cake and other delicious offerings.
The historical anniversary will also see several fundraising efforts continuing on throughout the year to support the future of the school.
A collaborative recipe book put together by the school community was launched at the assembly and sailings aboard the Lady Nelson for both students and the public will be continuing.
The Channel History Museum are also celebrating the anniversary with a display of significant memorabilia organised by the school.
