The Kingborough Crows Cricket Club were able to celebrate an upgrade to the pitch and practice nets which are part of the new, first class, facilities officially opened at the club on Thursday, February 6.

Jay Bowden from the Kingston Crows Cricket Club says the transformation at the club has been nothing short of amazing.

“The original facilities were extremely run down,” Mr Bowden said.

“The run-ups were worn down to uneven dirt and sand, which was a big injury risk as well as being difficult to play and practice on.

“The new area is fully concreted, with all surfaces covered in synthetic turf.

“We also now have some of the best practice nets in the state, which are being used for multiple sports and all age groups.

“The wider cricket pitch has already had a massive impact on the development of our junior sides, giving them more room and confidence to develop their bowling.”

Member for Franklin, the Honourable Jacquie Petrusma MP said the club is an incredibly valuable part of the community, supporting a strong membership base across Kingborough.

“The Tasmanian Government is a strong supporter of community sports clubs, and we are proud to have helped the Kingston Crows Cricket Club complete this project,” Ms Petrusma said.

“These new facilities are not just being used for cricket, but support many different kinds of sports, including wheelchair sports, tennis, sprint racing and social club competitions.”

The total cost of the upgrade was around $140,000, with the Tasmanian Government, Kingborough Council and Kingston Crows Cricket Club each contributing to the project.

“It’s so wonderful to see how many people from the public use the facilities during the week now,” Ms Petrusma said.

“Congratulations to the Committee and all the Members of KCCC on this fantastic redevelopment.”

CAP: Mayor of Kingborough, Cr Dean Winter, Member for Franklin Nic Street MP, Marcus Newman, Member for Franklin, the Honourable Jacquie Petrusma MP and Kingborough Crows player Jay Bowden at the official opening of the new facilities on Thursday, Frebruary 6. (PS)
