The Rotary Club of Kingston is donating $5000 to the Kingborough Helping Hands to assist in their anticipated $50,000 annual fundraising shortfall, due to COVID-19.
This $5000 donation has already been matched by another $5000 from a Rotary Australia Compassionate Grants Committee (RACG), a fund available through the generous philanthropic donation from Dick Smith to Rotary Australia World Community Service Ltd (RAWCS).
Kingborough Helping Hands (KHH) is a group of volunteers which has been assisting and supporting people in the Kingborough municipality for over a decade.
KHH has evolved to deliver services in a variety of ways including a food van (Loui’s Van serving 160-200 families per month), emergency relief hampers (150 hampers per year to community members who have fallen on hard times), Christmas hampers (250 hampers and 400 gifts to those that may not otherwise have received anything), the Christmas Sharing Tree (a place for the community to donate gifts, food items or vouchers to be distributed to those in need), donations to local women’s refuges (purchase and distribute clothes and personal effects to girls and women, some of which have been removed from domestic violence and sexual abuse situations) and Primary School breakfasts.
Due to the COVID-19, KHH’s services are more in demand than usual, however their two major fund-raising events have been cancelled leaving this $50,000 shortfall.
The President of Helping Hands, Edna Pennicott, is asking both their loyal supporters and any other members of the community, to donate to assist covering this shortfall in funds.
Edna has suggested that those who usually attend their annual Soup and Sandwich Fashion Show or the Xmas Luncheon might like to donate the normal $25 entrance fee.
In recognition of the good work that KHH does in the community, two loyal and generous supporters have donated their $750 economic support payment to KHH.
Every dollar donated to KHH by their supporters, will be matched by the RACG up to $10,000, which could mean another $20,000 support for the charity.
