Nervous debaters congratulated

Two teams of Kingston Primary School grade 6 students participated in their first inter-school debate on August 17, with both teams winning.
After three weeks of training, Kingston Primary students debated students from Bellerive Primary and Princes Street Primary schools.
The students debated whether learning from home was better than learning from school during the pandemic restriction period.
Kingston Primary student team member Elise recalled the team work and said the day was a great experience.
“We stood shaking and watching the debate before ours,” said Elise.
“I was so nervous.
“Our topic was that learning from home was better than learning from school in the first month of Term 2 but we were the negative so we didn’t agree with this topic.
“Hallie was the first speaker so she introduced our topic and some points as well as an amazing rebut.
“Then it was my turn.
“I had the rebut and announced 3 points.
“Lastly was Huon, the third speaker, who had some great rebuts and concluded our debate.
“Mr Chairman then gave us some feedback and announced who won the debate.
“We had done it!
“Huon realised that it wasn’t as hard as he originally thought and Hallie was proud of the team,” said Elise.
Assistant Principal, Dorothy Raymond the Kingston Primary School students demonstrated great thinking, team work and public speaking skills.
“The way these students confidently and respectfully represented our school was a real credit to their teachers, and parents of course.
“Congratulations to Hallie, Elise, Chase, Huon, Zoe and Olivia.
“We are very proud of you,” Ms Raymond said.
