Middleton Tennis Club has scored an upgrade to its tennis court via a $30,000 grant from the Tasmanian Government’s Improving the Playing Field program.

The grant program offers financial assistance to upgrade amenities at sporting facilities around Tasmania.

There is $10 million available to be distributed, across small and large grants rounds, with $5 million to be allocated in financial years 2020-21 and 2021-22.

Member for Franklin, the Honourable Jacquie Petrusma MP said the tennis court upgrade at Middleton will allow for people of all ages and abilities to be able to enjoy the new facilities.

“The condition of the court has deteriorated significantly over time and members of the Middleton Tennis Club were concerned about the safety and amenity of the facilities,” Ms Petrusma said.

“The facilities also need to be upgraded to allow for disability access, as the current access is not suitable.

“The $30,000 Improving the Playing Field grant will provide a high-quality hardcourt surface, replace the nets and posts, repair the fence and provide disability access.

“The improved tennis court will further add to the great amenities and facilities of the area, including cricket nets, barbecue facilities, community hall and public toilets, all of which contribute to encouraging an active and healthy lifestyle,” Ms Petrusma said.

“I’d like to thank local residents, especially George Zdenkowski, who were instrumental in securing this grant for the club.”
