More support for families with young children in the Kingborough region is on the way, with construction of the new Kingborough Child and Family Learning Centre (CFLC) expected to commence in 2023.
The new Kingborough CFLC will be located on the Kingston Primary School site (Hutchins Street) and offer a variety of programs and services all in one place to support families with young children from birth to age 5.
Extensive community consultation has been undertaken to help determine the facilities and services the Kingborough CFLC will provide.
A Local Enabling Group, which includes community, education, and support services representatives, was also established and this group has actively contributed to the design of the new centre.
Kingborough CFLC centre leader Rachael Hawkins has been appointed to oversee the construction phase and the transition to operations.
“It’s definitely an exciting phase of the project, as once construction starts, things start to move pretty quickly,” said Mrs Hawkins.
“The new centre will be an inviting and vibrant space where children and families from the local community can come and access services that enhance wellbeing and lifelong learning.”
“We want our families to feel comfortable, respected, and connected and we’ll be offering a range of services and programs for children, their parents and carers, even if that’s just a casual place for children to play, and for families to have a chat with our friendly and supportive team.”
The new Kingborough CFLC is part of the Tasmanian Government’s commitment to supporting young learners and their parents and carers, with $28 million allocated to deliver six new CFLCs across the State.
