The first 18 of 80 homes have been completed and handed over to owners at Traders in Purple’s Kings Quarter development in Kingston, adding much-needed housing stock to the greater Hobart market.
Kingborough Mayor Paula Wriedt and Minister Guy Barnett officially opened this first stage on Wednesday, October 26.
Mr Barnett said “It is a great example of local government and private sector partnering to identify opportunities and delivering much needed housing developments.
“Private investment is critical to increasing housing supply which is why we want to encourage projects like this that have been master-planned with residents in mind”.
The homes, which commenced construction in February 2021, are part of a $45 million investment in stage one of the total $300 million multistage community masterplan development.
The remaining 62 homes in the first residential stage of the project will be completed progressively, with the entire stage on track to be completed the same time next year.
All 80 homes, both completed and underway, have been sold.
Traders in Purple Chief Executive Officer, Brett Robinson said having residents move in was a huge milestone for the project, which aimed to provide a new benchmark for community developments in Tasmania.
“Despite a challenging construction environment, Traders in Purple is delighted to have completed the first batch of homes at its Kings Quarter development,” Mr Robinson said.
“It is highly rewarding to see the first residents moving in and hearing how much they love their new homes.
“We are very proud to have partnered with the Kingborough Council and local businesses to revitalise the site of the old Kingston High School, and to be providing high quality housing into the market.
“The first stage of homes sold out more than 12 months ahead of schedule, showing the huge demand for housing developments of this type in and around Hobart and highlighting the power of a developer working together with local government to reach solutions that benefit the community.”
Mr Robinson said sales of the next stage at Kings Quarter would commence in early 2023, subject to receipt of planning approval.
“This next stage will provide a further 50 dwellings, as well as supporting around 180 jobs both on and off site during the construction phase, with positive flow-on effect to local businesses including suppliers, manufacturers and consultants,” Mr Robinson said.
As well as the next residential stage, a planning application will shortly be lodged for a new commercial office building, bringing new employment opportunities to the Kingborough region.
