Kingborough Council recently opened a new asphalt pump track located at Kingborough’s Mountain Bike Park on Kingston View Drive.
“This new asphalt pump track brings the facility up to contemporary standards and can be used by scooters and skateboarders as well,” Kingborough Mayor Paula Wriedt said.
“We are ensuring that the community has the best possible experience with the added benefit of creating something that is easier to maintain and will last longer.”
Minister for Sport and Recreation Nic Street said the State Government provided $262,683 in funding through an Improving the Playing Field Grant.
“Tasmania’s world class facilities and events are putting the State on the international mountain biking scene,” Mr Street said.
“This modernised pump track will be a popular destination for riders to gain access to training and playground amenities in the fast-growing Kingborough region.”
Kingborough Mayor Paula Wriedt said the pump track and jump area was a very popular location after school and on weekends.
“To cope with the increase in traffic to the area, Council has invested in upgrading the carpark to increase capacity and will be putting a toilet facility into the area,” Cr Wriedt said.
“To enable protection from the weather a shelter and seating was installed with funding provided by a $26,532 Improving the Playing Field Small Grant.
“Our residents love sports, so it is great to be able to provide this facility only 600 metres from Kingborough Sports Centre.
“One of the most exciting upgrades to the facilities is the specially built wallride to challenge more advanced rider.
“The contract was completed by Velosolutions who have built over 400 asphalt pump tracks around the world.”
Velosolutions Director Phil Saxena said he hoped this would become a focal point for riders and that the local community would enjoy the track for many years to come.
“The asphalt surface will allow riders to have fun on the pump track no matter what the weather,” Mr Saxena said.
“They are suitable for everyone from kids on balance bikes and skateboards, through to pro level BMX and MTB riders; the track will quickly establish itself on the Tassie riding scene.”
