Kingston Police Station has recently welcomed Colin Riley as its new Inspector.
Colin Riley has been a police officer for 30 years and an Inspector of Police for 14 years.
He has occupied positions in uniform police divisions, the Special Operations Group (including deployment at the Port Arthur Massacre 1996) and more recently was the President of the Police Association of Tasmania from 2019 to May 2023.
Colin is a current resident and has lived in Kingston for 30 years.
In the 1990s he worked as a police officer at the Huonville Station for four years.
Colin was excited for the opportunity to return to policing in the Kingston Division.
He said it was his ultimate goal to live and work in this amazing part of Tasmania.
Colin noted that whilst there has been a recent spike in crime rates in Kingborough that the total offences rate per 10,000 population in the Kingborough local government area is one of the lowest in Tasmania.
“The Kingborough community have good expectations and are committed about effective law and order, being very willing witnesses to assist police apprehend offenders,” Colin said.
“In May 2023, there was a marginal increase in the incidence of burglaries in Kingston, Blackmans Bay, and Margate areas.
“As a result of assistance and information from the community, a 23-year-old man from Geeveston was apprehended by police on May 14 and charged with 83 offences related to these matters.
“This demonstrates the excellent link between the community and police at Kingston.”
