A new war memorial was unveiled at Kingston Beach last week.
Three sandstone panels have been installed to replace the Gallipoli marker.
The Governor of Tasmania, Her Excellency the Honourable Barbara Baker AC officiated the dedication service.
A committee from the Kingston Beach RSL Sub-Branch worked hard to have this new memorial installed, successfully applying for a $5000 Teddy Shehan VC Memorial Grant.
“While all members of the Sub-Branch committee have worked towards the construction of the memorial it would be remiss not to mention David Taylor, our immediate past Secretary,” Vice-President Peter Blackburn said.
“He was Secretary for many years and had carriage of a lot of the planning and liaison for the memorial.
“Without his tireless efforts it is doubtful that we would have succeeded.”
Peter Blackburn thanked Kingborough Council for their involvement.
“Kingborough Council has supported our efforts and has conducted public consultation both about the location and design of the memorial,” Peter said.
“They also constructed the base for the memorial.
“The Kingborough community has been unstinting in their support through donations and purchase of memorabilia.”
