The SeaLink ticket booth at Kettering Ferry Terminal unveiled a new Aboriginal art installation recently.
Bronwyn Englert, a local Tasmanian contemporary Aboriginal artist, spent 27 hours creating the original painting that was then replicated by a digital printer.
The artwork features intricate elements representing profound significance to the region, including Parrabah (meaning whale and SeaLink’s vessel’s name), places of cultural significance and fairy penguins at Bruny Island’s neck.
General Manager Simon Tamlyn said SeaLink approached the South East Tasmania Aboriginal Corporation, with whom they have had a working relationship since SeaLink took over the operation in late 2018.
“I was looking for a local artist that we could collaborate with to really tell the story of Bruny Island from a First Nation’s perspective,” Tamlyn said.
“The brief was to bring to life all the wonderful history of First Nation peoples’ ties to the island whilst adding colour and vibrancy to the improved facilities at the Kettering terminal.
“We gave Bron free rein to come up with a concept and fair to say she did an amazing job.”
