On Sunday afternoon, January 21, the Madame Butterflies Relay for Life team had a fundraising flower show at the Kingston Beach Hall.
This included Devonshire tea, a raffle, a sing-a-long, demonstrations and prizes.
The show was opened by Zonta Lieutenant Governor Wendy Quinn, who gave a speech on the work Zonta do with Breast Cancer Cushions, which provide comfort and support during post-operative recovery.
The Relay for Life is an annual event that raises money for the Cancer Council.
Teams are formed in every state and territory in Australia to fundraise through activities like cake stalls, sausage sizzles, quiz nights and now a flower show.
Zonta is a global organisation working to improve the lives of women and girls through service and advocacy.
All funds raised, over $1000, will go to the Cancer Council of Tasmania.
Madame Butterflies Relay for Life Team Leader Helen Lindsay said the team were thrilled by the attendance at the hall.
“There are many strong garden clubs in Kingborough as well as amazing individual gardeners,” she said.
“A flower show gave them all a chance to show off their pride and joy.”
Helen thanked all the volunteers who worked hard to pull this event together, particularly her daughter Sonia.
