In memory of Jessie Mahjouri

The Bruny Island Community Library joined Bruny Island locals and members of the Tasmanian literary community in remembering Jessie Mahjouri and mourning her passing on February 15.
“Bruny Island Community Library is broken-hearted at the sudden death of our beloved Jessie,” they said in a public statement.
“Her passion for books and reading infused us all.
“Her warmth and welcome made us smile.
“Her skills, her creativity and her knowledge have made the library what it is.”
Jessie’s friend and collaborator, Anne Morgan, a Tasmanian children’s author and coordinator of the Tasmanian chapter of the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) said that Jessie was an enabler, content to make things happen behind the scenes.
“The literary world and the Bruny Island community have lost one of their staunchest champions,” Anne said.
“Jessie Mahjouri, my close friend and collaborator in kid lit adventures, died unexpectedly last Thursday, three days after a massive stroke.
“There is so much that could be said about Jessie – wise, witty, smart, loving, lively, happy, humble, generous, creative, adventurous, reliable, organised, elegant, fit and active, devoted to her family and friends.
“Jessie never sought the limelight.
“She was an enabler, content to make things happen behind the scenes.
“And make them happen she did.
“Collaborating with Jessie on children’s literary events was pure magic.
“This marvellous woman lit up the lives of everyone she met and made the world a better place.
“Heartfelt sympathy to Rod, Nadia and the rest of the family she adored.”
