Dennes Point-based swimming group Dunking Southern Rights braced the freezing weather on Saturday, August 17 to raise funds for Cancer Council’s Daffodil Day Dip.
“The weather was not kind to us, the air temperature hovered around seven degrees and the rain was persistent,” Friends of North Bruny Public Officer Jan Richards said.
“Not to be thwarted, 20 locals threw themselves into the Channel (13 degrees), with another 20 looking on.”
The group raised over $2000 for their efforts and were warmed up afterwards with a sausage sizzle, coffee and cake.
Daffodil Day took place on Thursday, August 22 but Cancer Council invites anyone to take a dip, dive or swim in cold water throughout August to raise funds and awareness for cancer research.
