A new reconciliation group has been formed in Kingborough, with the Kingborough Reconciliation Action Group (KRAG) holding its first meeting yesterday on Monday, October 14 at the Salty Dog Hotel, Kingston Beach.
KRAG is part of Reconciliation Tasmania’s Local Action Networks, bringing together people interested in advancing reconciliation by nurturing knowledge, awareness, empathy and respect for First Nations people.
Kingborough is in Clark, the only electorate in Tasmania to have voted ‘yes’ in the 2023 Australian Indigenous Voice referendum.
“The referendum result shows that most of the people in our area voted ‘yes’ which is really encouraging for us,” said Anne Warren, one of KRAG’s founders.
“We would really like some of those yes voters to join our group and help us build understanding in the community.”
Their first group action was to host a dinner on the anniversary of the referendum’s voting day on October 14.
“We will reconnect to share stories and ideas for continuing the work of building a more inclusive and understanding community together,” Anne said.
The next meeting will be held in Sandy Bay on Thursday, November 7.
