On Wednesday, December 4th, Blackmans Bay Primary School held a charity Uniform Free Day.
In exchange for wearing casual clothes to school, students were asked to bring a gift or gold coin to be donated to Jireh House women’s refuge.
Jireh House provides 24-hour crisis accommodation and support for local women and children made homeless due to domestic violence and other life crises.
In addition to providing presents and gift cards for the women and children staying at Jireh House over Christmas, the gift drive made a $300 donation to Hobart City Mission.
Hobart City Mission is a safe 24-hour service for people experiencing homelessness in Hobart.
They also received ten Christmas trees and decoration packs for their DIY Dads Program and other accommodation units.
Principal Ashley McPherson and his administrative team have fully supported the annual gift drive since its inception eight years ago.
The gifts, trees and donations collected will be distributed among the families staying at Jireh House and Hobart City Mission during the Christmas season.
