The Matt Whayman Award for Social Justice is presented by the Whayman family in memory of their son, former Taroona High School student Matthew Whayman, who was tragically killed in a car crash by a negligent driver.
It is presented to a student who demonstrates empathy, fairness and equality in their interactions with staff and students.
They advocate for local, national and global issues and focus their energy on bringing about positive change.
The 2024 recipient was Thomas Coward, with the award donated by Home Base.
Thomas accepted the award from Principal Charles White and Assistant Principal Adam van Sant at the Taroona High School Presentation Evening last month.
