Snug local Beau Webster made his Australian Test debut this weekend where he shone in a six-wicket victory over India for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Beau took two great catches and was Australia’s top scorer with 57 in the first innings, taking a wicket and 39no with the bat in the second innings.
“We have seen Beau be part of our pathways system since he was a 12-year-old, and his development from junior to state and now to an Australian representative has been exciting for all Tasmanians,” Cricket Tasmania CEO Dominic Baker said.
“His selection is also a fantastic moment for the Webster family, the Kingborough District Cricket Club and of course the greater Snug community to see one of their own play for Australia in such an important test match against India.”
Beau chose cricket over football as a career, having played at state level for both in underage competitions.
His cricket career has flourished to play for Tasmania in the U15s, U17s, U19s and U23s, various BBL teams, county cricket in England, Australia A and now the Australian Test team.
He has had a successful Sheffield Shield career and was Player of the Year for the 2023 to 2024 season.
“For any aspiring young Tasmanian, Beau’s selection shows that hard work, consistency and a willingness to continue to improve will create positive results and that there is a pathway for Tasmanians to play on the biggest stage,” Cricket Tasmania Chair and former Australian Test cricketer David Boon said.
