St Aloysius Catholic College’s convent playground was officially opened on Friday, May 2.
Located on the junior campus in Kingston Beach, the convent playground was funded by a $50,000 Premier’s Fund grant.
Deputy Principal Kindergarten to Year 4 Samuel Morey led the opening ceremony, inviting students Isla Turner and Starssi McLean to deliver an Acknowledgment of Country.
Michelle Synott played a pivotal role in the design of the convent playground, offering a Tasmanian Aboriginal perspective.
“Her ability to so beautifully encapsulate these crucial viewpoints has resulted in a space that is not only a place for play but also a testament to our interconnectedness with the earth and a respectful acknowledgment of the land’s traditional custodians,” Mr Morey said.
Mr Morey also thanked Andrea Reece, who took on the role of Project Lead, working with a support team of Trent Lovell, Shannon and Angela Allen to transform the space into a beautiful playground for the community.
Father Mike Delaney invited Ms Reece to join him in blessing the new playground.
Accompanied by a flock of small children, Father Delaney and Ms Reece went around various points in the playground to bless the space by sprinkling holy water.
“As we sprinkle this holy water, let us all remember that this playground is more than just a physical space; it is where our values flourish and lives are transformed,” Father Mike said.
This new playground is a space for St Aloysius’ Explorers birth to five years students and other students from the junior campus alike, designed to cultivate a spirit of togetherness.
