Whilst approximately 3000 flocked to the Nude Solstice Swim on Long Beach, which marked the official end of Dark Mofo, some locals were more mindful of their winter solstice celebrations on Saturday, June 21.
Lisa O’Neill from Embody Yoga led a yoga practice on the winter solstice, which coincides with International Day of Yoga.
“As the sun rose on the shortest day we were guided through a yoga practice to cultivate heat in the body with the beautiful backdrop of Blackmans Bay Beach, followed by an exhilarating dip in the ocean,” Lisa shared.
“Yoga is a spiritual practice and a wisdom lineage all about mindfulness, breath and connection.
“Yoga offers numerous physical and mental benefits, including improved flexibility, strength, stress relief and enhanced mental health.
“When the practice is married with cold water exposure, the benefits are even more powerful, including boosting the immune system, reducing inflammation and enhancing mood and mental wellbeing.”
Lisa said these community classes on the beach aren’t just exclusive to the winter solstice, but are regular events she offers in every season.
