Marie Giblin, one of the original members of Tramway Hill Landcare Group (THLG), peacefully passed away surrounded by family on July 10.
“Marie will be dearly missed by all who knew her,” her family shared.
“She dedicated her life to making this planet a better place.”
THLG coordinator Roz Thurn shared some memories of Marie with the Kingborough Chronicle.
The THLG first formed in 2000, and Marie regularly devoted many hours at working bees, as well as working alone on THLG sites.
THLG works across three sites in Margate: Tramway Hill Reserve, Nierinna Creek Reserve and Davis Flat.
Marie only slowed down after her health declined a few years ago.
After she moved to Firthside, Marie could often be seen working on roadside verges weeding, planting and collecting rubbish, usually with her dog as company.
“Marie was a passionate and generous person who contributed so much to our local public spaces around Margate,” Roz said.
“Her caring nature and witty sense of humour will be greatly missed.”
