Kettering Walkers organiser Elspeth Haughie celebrated her 80th birthday a few days early with her fellow walkers on Friday, August 22 before heading off on a holiday for her actual birthday on August 28.
Kettering Walkers was established in 2010 as part of the Heart Foundation Walking initiative and 15 years later continues to provide its members with twice weekly walks around the Channel area and beyond.
Heart Foundation Walking is Australia’s largest free walking network, with over 300,000 participants since it was established in 1995.
Kettering Walkers gathered at the Seawall Café in Kettering to celebrate Elspeth’s special day.
“The walkers are my family,” Elspeth said.
“Walking is such a great exercise, and I very much appreciate their company, friendship and support.
“Their energy, enthusiasm, laughter and stories keep me and others young!”
There are approximately 40 members in Kettering Walkers, and they meet for walks on Wednesday and Friday mornings.
