The team responsible for maintaining Kingborough’s sporting grounds has been recognised with a state award for excellence in sports turf management.
Kingborough Council’s six-member turf maintenance team, led by Brad Marsh, looks after 16 sports grounds across the municipality and was recognised for the quality of its playing surfaces.
Acting Mayor Christian Street said the award reflected the work carried out by staff throughout the year.
The recognition also puts Kingborough in contention for a national award, with the winner to be announced at the Australian Sports Turf Management Conference in Melbourne later this month.
Mr Marsh said the award belonged to the whole team.
“It’s great recognition of the work and care our team shows year-round across Kingborough’s sports grounds,” he said.
“The team takes great pride in maintaining high-quality playing surfaces for the community, working through the busy growing season and the colder winter months.”
From local football and cricket grounds to community sporting facilities, the team works across the municipality to prepare and maintain surfaces used by thousands of players each year.
The national award winner will be announced on June 22.
