Kingston gymnast Kobi Gray has claimed a national gold medal and earned the opportunity to compete alongside some of Australia’s elite gymnasts at the 2026 Australian Gymnastics Championships in Sydney.
The championships, being held at the Quaycentre at Sydney Olympic Park, run from June 28 to July 20 and feature three weeks of competition across all gymsports, including Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics, Trampoline Gymnastics, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Sports Acrobatics and Aerobics.
Representing Tasmania in Men’s Artistic Gymnastics, Gray, who trains at the State Gymnastics Centre in Kingston, won the gold medal in the Level 10 Open Rings final.
He also finished seventh overall in the Level 10 All-Around competition.
His gold medal performance qualified him for the Senior International Men’s Rings final, where he competed for the first time against Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games athletes, finishing an impressive eighth.
Tasmania also celebrated strong performances across the artistic gymnastics competition.
Archie McKenna placed seventh in the Level 9 Junior International Under-18 Pommel Horse event, while Keira Harding claimed bronze in the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Level 10 14 Years and Under division.
Attention now turns to the Tasmanian Trampoline Gymnastics team, which began competition this week in Sydney.
The team includes reigning Australian champions River Mallam, Leuca McLeod and Tristan Styles, who will be aiming for podium finishes when the finals are held on Saturday and Sunday.
