Kingston Beach athlete Ruby Smee has been selected in the Australian team to contest the World Half Marathon Championships in Denmark.
It is the first time she will wear the National colours in senior competition, having previously represented Australia as a junior in cross country running.
Her selection comes on the back of a strong performance in the Gold Coast Half Marathon, where she placed third Australian in her debut over the 21.1 kilometre distance.
Her time of one hour 11 minutes and 24 seconds was the second fastest ever by a Tasmanian female athlete and just 15 seconds outside the State Record set by Olympian Milly Clark in 2021.
She followed this up with a silver medal at the National Cross Country titles held in muddy conditions at Ballarat.
Ruby is a member of the Sandy Bay Harrier Club and is currently studying speech therapy at the University of Tasmania.
The World Half Marathon Championships will be held in Copenhagen on Sunday, September 20.
