Two Kingborough sporting clubs have been awarded substantial grants for the purposes of upgrading their female change rooms and facilities as part of the Levelling the Playing Field program aimed to support women and girls participating in sport.
The Kingborough Tigers Football Club will receive $340,000 towards their female change rooms at Kingston Beach and the Kingborough Lions will receive $300,000 towards improvements at Lightwood Park.
“Kingborough Lions United FC’s Women & Girls Program is rapidly growing and the current change room situation has becoming increasingly difficult,” said the Club.
“The addition of new change rooms to Lightwood Park will continue the Club’s vision to be become the premier football (soccer) facility in the South of the state.”
President Warren Iles, female players and volunteers hosted Member for Franklin, the Honourable Jacquie Petrusma MP and Mayor of Kingborough Cr Dean Winter in a show of appreciation for the funding.
"This is great news and we appreciate the strong support of State and Local government and our members as we strive to improve the welfare of our players and provide facilities that benefit the Kingborough community." Mr Iles said.
The Levelling the Playing Field Grants will see a $10 million investment by the State Government over the two-year program, with organisations matching the commitment dollar for dollar.
Member for Franklin, Jacquie Petrusma MP said fourteen organisations from across Tasmania will receive grants in latest round of funding.
“The $5.34 million allocated this year will help organisations build new facilities and upgrade existing facilities to ensure girls and women have access to the sporting facilities they need” said Mrs Petrusma.
“This will help improve the attraction and retention of female members in sporting codes right across the state.”
