Kingston Beach Golf Club will be celebrating its 100th birthday with a gala open day on Sunday, January 22.
It will be a day promoting golf as a fun and social activity for people of all ages and abilities. 
Club PGA Professional Daniel Gawley says everyone is invited to join in the celebrations, with the club arranging several ‘golfing activities’ for both experienced golfers and people new to the sport. 
Putting and chipping activities will be organised by Assistant PGA Professional Christian Rainey.
BBQ and refreshments will be available throughout the day and there will be a number of presentations for visitors to discover the history of the club. 
The official opening will occur at 12noon. 
Club President David Patmore said “We want the day to be a fun day for families and friends”.
“The people of Kingborough are fortunate to have one of the leading golf courses in Tasmania right on their doorstep. 
“For the past two years the club has hosted the Tasmanian Open Championship and has received accolades from golfers all around Australia.” 
Club Vice President Diane Cook who is co-ordinating the event with fellow club members Tony Lorkin and Tim Johns said that the event is a wonderful opportunity to invite families and friends and reach out and showcase a much-loved recreational facility for the community of Kingborough. 
Diane Cook has been newly appointed to this role and said that “I am very keen to encourage more participation of female golfers in the club and make golf more accessibly as a fun and social activity for people of all ages and abilities”. 
Many golfers of world renown have played Kingston Beach, though the club is best known as the home of the Toogood brothers (Peter and John) who, along with Len Nettlefold, were champion world-class golfers during the fifties and sixties. 
Club President David Patmore suggested when asked about the event, “What better motivation to get you and your friends off the couch and join in the fun day of celebrations”.
“A 2020 scientific study conducted in Sweden showed that golfers live an average of five years longer than non-golfers.
“So, the morale of the story is, if you want to live longer and enjoy better health and wellbeing, I suggest you drop down to Kingston Beach Golf Club on Sunday 22 January and join us in the Centenary Open Day celebrations.” 
The Open Day will be held from 9.30am to 2.30pm.
