An all-abilities access pathway at Silverwater Park, Woodbridge will soon be able to get underway as part of the Tasmanian Government's Open Spaces Grant Program.
The Tasmanian Government has provided $115,000 for the project, administered by the Local Government Association of Tasmania (LGAT).
Kingborough Mayor Paula Wriedt said the $115,000 grant for an all-abilities access pathway in Silverwater Park would connect the carpark to the playground.
"Council is also upgrading the park to include new seating, play equipment, toilets, shading and improved access to the foreshore," Cr Wriedt said.
"Silverwater Park is a well-used and loved playground and Council would like to thank the community for their contribution in the design process."
Minister for Local Government Nic Street said the program's second round attracted significant interest.
"More than $2 million worth of funding has been awarded in Round 2," Minister Street said.
"Importantly, communities and councils in all regions of the state will benefit.
"Some of the projects have council co-funding.
"Our local councils are doing a great job of providing facilities and open spaces to help cater for locals and these grants are all about helping them do that.
"I thank councils for their efforts in preparing high quality proposals."
Kingborough Council has also received $350,000 for a connector track in Springfarm.
"The $350,000 grant along with $230,000 of Council funding will build the missing link between Whitewater Creek Track and Kingborough Sports Precinct and to Kingston High School," Kingborough Mayor Paula Wriedt said.
"This new link will improve access for residents and students living in Spring Farm and Whitewater Estates when traveling to school and sporting facilities in the area.
"By creating better community links our residents have access to healthier transport options when moving throughout Kingborough.
"Council is dedicated to improving accessibility for all our community members."
LGAT President and Break O'Day Mayor Mick Tucker said supporting communities were what these grants are for.
"Councils provide the critical infrastructure that supports the community to live active lives," Cr Tucker said.
"The combined investment of councils and the State Government from this program will make a significant contribution to the health and wellbeing of the communities involved."
