Calvin Christian School student, James Tyers has been announced as the 2018 National Young Historian after winning the National Historian Challenge Competition in Canberra on Monday, December 3.

James’ winning submission was a nine minute video about the 1966 decimalisation of the Australian Currency.
He was able to demonstrate this change was a political, economic and social turning point, thus weaving this year's History Challenge theme through his work.
The judges were impressed with the seamless production and the comprehensive use of primary and secondary sources.
At the State Award Ceremony, hosted by the Premier Will Hodgman on November 8, James was presented with the State Young Historian Award and entered as finalist for the National Historian of the Year.
A group of Year 6 Calvin students were also announced as National winners in the Year 5/6 category.
Calvin Principal Iain Belot said, “This was a work of exceptional scholarship,” adding that their achievements are an accurate reflection of the Calvin be your best ethos.
Calvin history teacher Sue Newitt hailed it as a fantastic result.
This is the first time Calvin students have entered the competition.
Also a winner in the national competition was Taroona High School student, Albert Edgell-Taylor who received the Museum Exhibit award.
