Kingborough going orange

Kingborough going orange

Kingborough community groups and members are preparing for Muscular Dystrophy Tasmania's (MDT) inaugural 'Go Orange for Muscular Dystrophy' campaign being held from June 3 to June 9.
The campaign was launched recently to raise awareness and understanding of muscular dystrophy and allied conditions and to encourage community fundraising with a twist of orange.
There are two craft groups in Kingborough busy making orange felt hearts to give to others.
One group meets at the adult education centre U3A Kingborough Inc on Hutchins Street and the other group meets on Mondays at the Kingborough Bowls and Community Club in Margate.
"It's such a thoughtful gift to pay it forward, thanking people for being kind and inclusive of others," MDT State Coordinator Diana Carter said.
"I'm enjoying giving them to people and seeing them smile.
"I keep mine in my purse, so whenever I open it up my heart has a little flutter."
Huntingfield resident Zoe Carter attended the campaign launch at Wrest Point but will also be hosting a mimosa brunch on Sunday, June 9 to raise funds.
Zoe has already raised $100 for MDT's goal of $100,000.
Ann Hines of Kingborough Pickleball Association will be coordinating a week-long campaign encouraging people to wear orange at their sessions from June 3-9 at the Kingborough Sports Centre.
Kingston businesses The Coffee Hole and Brew & Bloom at Mitre 10 will be hosting a week of awareness raising and fundraising, with plans to be finalised soon.
Kingborough Council will also light up the Kingborough Community Hub in orange.
"With over one thousand Tasmanians living with muscular dystrophy we want more people to know about it, to be inclusive of people with the condition and to make their life that little bit better, if we can," President of Muscular Dystrophy Tasmania Mick Peters said.
