Kingborough honours ANZAC Day

Kingborough honours ANZAC Day

ANZAC Day was commemorated on Thursday, April 25 with services and parades in over 80 locations across Tasmania, including Taroona, Kingston Beach, Woodbridge and Bruny Island in Kingborough.
The Taroona service commenced with a 5.30am march from the Taroona Bowls Club to the Taroona War Memorial on Batchelor Way.
Attendees were refreshed with a traditional 'gunfire' breakfast afterwards, which included rum-laced coffee or tea.
There were more people than seats in the Woodbridge School Hall, with the post-service pancake breakfast proving popular.
In addition to breakfast, the Channel RSL Sub-Branch served their annual presentation of books donated to Woodbridge School, along with an RSL Certificate of Achievement presented to Assistant Principal Caroline Randall.
Ms Randall was presented with the certificate by Channel RSL Sub-Branch President Steve Wass for her many years of committed support and work with Woodbridge's students and the Sub-Branch in bringing a greater understanding of Australia's military history.
Bruny Island's dawn service was conducted at Alonnah Memorial and Kingston Beach's at Osborne Esplanade, making use of the new sandstone war memorial panels that were installed in November last year.
