Kingston resident bowling milestone

Kingston resident John Cannell recently applied for a Life Membership with Kingborough Senior Citizens Club Inc to mark 20 years of playing indoor bowls with the club.
His application was rejected at the club's recent committee meeting, who indicated John did not meet the criteria as outlined in the club's constitution.
"He deserves recognition," John's wife Lenna said.
Turning 84 later this month, John is an active member of the community, helping his neighbours to return their rubbish bins after collection and assisting with the set up and pack down of mats and scoreboards for bowls games at the Senior Citizens Club.
John lives at the Wellington Vista Retirement Village, a short distance from the club on Redwood Road.
"I still play two days most weeks and enjoy the company," John said.
Even when on holiday John has bowls on the brain.
"My greatest achievement was in Maroochydore," John recollected.
Whilst on holiday in the Queensland city John searched for the local bowling club where he beat the club champion at the time, Stella.
"Frank Liard invited me to the senior bowling club back in 2004 as he was a member then and playing Tuesday and Thursday," John said.
"We still have a good bunch of members, both men and women, playing today from the 2004 group."
