Young entrepreneur gives generously

Alexis Chilcott of Kingston Beach is continuing to support Kingborough Helping Hands (KHH), raising funds through her garden stall and easing the burden for many local families and individuals during these challenging times.

Although the stall started as a way to earn some pocket money, Alexis realised that she could help the community by donating some proceeds from her earnings to charity and was recently able to donate a very generous $136 to Loui’s Van.

Inspired to the garden by her father Andrew and Nanny Lala, Alexis has been developing a green thumb and putting it to good use, creating Lex’s Garden Shop.

Through the sale of home-grown succulents, vegetables, fruits and flowers at her small stall in Balmoral Road, some of which is donated by family and friends, Alexis has been aiding KHH to help the less fortunate in the community.

Alexis has been developing and improving many skills through her initiative, including potting, growing and picking plants as well as financial skills by providing customers with change and working out the 20 percent of her earnings to be donated to KHH.

KHH provides meals and hampers for those in need and the young entrepreneur has donated over $500 to the charitysince she started.

Alongside her gardening skills, Andrew says that Alexis has experienced personal growth in her confidence and communication as she has continued her efforts with the stall.

Despite the pandemic having some impact on the operations of Lex’s Garden Shop, Alexis is determined to re-stock her plants and problem solve any issues so that she can keep helping those in need.

More information about Lex’s Garden Shop can be found on facebook.
