The beginning of the school year can be a tough time for parents who are struggling to keep up with the cost of living, with some families having to make sacrifices to pay for the school supplies and stationery that their kids need to learn.
To make sure no student misses out, a dedicated team of volunteers and sponsors have teamed up with local Neighbourhood Houses to provide over 160 school supply packs for families in Kingborough and on Hobart's Eastern Shore.
Franklin MP David O'Byrne, who organises the school supplies drive each year, said the demand for school supplies has never been greater.
"The sad reality is that some kids don't get the most basic stationery and supplies they need for school if their parents are unable to afford it," said Mr O'Byrne.
"It's absolutely vital that all Tasmanian students have the school supplies they need to learn.
"Sadly, with rising cost of living pressures, more and more families in Kingborough and right across Hobart are struggling to afford the necessities.
"But thanks to a terrific team of volunteers and donors, and the vital work of our Neighbourhood Houses, we were able to ensure that over 160 students have what they need to start the school year on the right track."
The school supply packs included brand new stationery, lunchboxes, drink bottles and backpacks donated by members of the community.
The packs were distributed with help of the Kingston Neighbourhood House on Hawthorne Drive and other Neighbourhood Houses on Hobart's Eastern Shore.
