Student selected for science forum

Hobart College student and Kingborough resident Konan Masuda has been selected to attend the 2024 National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) in 2024.
He will travel to Canberra in January 2024 to join hundreds of other gifted Year 11 science students from around the country.
The NYSF summer school will run from January 5-14.
Konan Masuda said he loves science and after missing out on the Rotary Science and Engineering Challenge because of COVID restrictions when he was a student at Taroona High School, he was excited to learn that he was eligible to apply for the National Youth Science Forum and that his application was successful.
NYSF participants will take part in stimulating lectures, workshops and professional visits as well as being mentored by researchers and peer supporters who have already graduated from the prestigious extension program.
Hobart College teacher Jenny Dudgeon and acting assistant principal Marjorie Morgan encouraged Konan to complete the application, which was supported by Principal Dr Elizabeth Robinson and President of the Rotary Club of Kingston Ewen Cameron.
Mr Cameron said the club was proud to support Konan and looked forward to hearing him speak at the club about his experience.
Konan said that at this stage he is hoping to become an electrical engineer, but he expects that his vision for his future vocation could veer off into a new direction once he gets to Canberra.
Konan thanked his classmate Aisha Bissett for letting him know about the youth program.
