Kingston story shines bright

Kingston High School student Jade Dickinson is the first Tasmanian writer and also one of the youngest writers to be published in a Minds Shine Bright anthology.
The anthologies feature winning and commended entries from the Minds Shine Bright writing competitions.
Jade's short story "Gindle's Spirit" will be published in Storm: Minds Shine Bright Season 1.
Proud parents Daphine and Andrew said Jade has been writing prolifically since she was 11 years old.
"She does all of her writing herself but has matured to the stage that she is prepared to have her work scrutinised and edited," they said.
"She is still writing for her own pleasure in between her studies at high school.
"We are very grateful to her Year 6 teacher Mrs Micaela Munday who encouraged Jade to enter her writing into competitions.
"Her first success was in the Tamar Valley Short Story Competition, where she won first prize for her story "Pippy", a true story documenting her rescue, raising and release of a baby wood duck.
"She entered the Minds Shine Bright competition when she was 12, and we were delighted when she received a commendation given the incredible pool of authors, both old and young who entered from all around the world.
"We are extremely proud of her and hope she will keep writing whether it becomes her main career or not."
