Neika residents Phil Wise (50) and his son Ned (14) are cycling over 3700 kilometres from their home all the way to Darwin, Northern Territory to raise funds for three charities close to their hearts.
Phil and Ned departed Neika on a dark and rainy May 10 and were making their way through Brisbane last week.
The pair aim to raise $100,000 for Tasmanian Land Conservancy (TLC), The Thin Green Line Foundation (TGL) and Ride4AWoman.
At the time of print they had raised over $18,000 for their fundraiser they have called ‘Phil and Ned’s Ride for Nature’.
Phil currently works for TLC, which buys and manages private land through conservation agreements.
TGL is a not-for-profit dedicated to supporting rangers and their families worldwide.
Ride4AWoman is a social enterprise on the edge of Bwindi National Park in Uganda that supports women dealing with HIV, poverty and domestic violence.
The journey so far has taken Phil and Ned through the Central Highlands of Tasmania to privately protected land that is part of the TLC estate and Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, Otway Ranges, Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park and Little Desert National Park.
Phil and Ned’s bikes are getting serviced at a Treadly bike shop in Norwood, South Australia who offered to support the pair in preparation for the next leg of their journey.
This will take them up the Mawson Trail, along the 614-kilometre Oodnodatta Track and then up the Stuart Highway all the way to Darwin, with the hope of rolling in on World Ranger Day on July 31.
Phil and Ned are raising funds for their three chosen organisations in a range of ways.
Every 1000 kilometres they cycle they donate $100 of their own money, they are delivering talks to the public along the way for donations to Ride4AWoman and they have a MyCause page set up for the Tasmanian Land Conservancy (TLC) and The Thin Green Line Foundation (TGL).
Donations can be made through their QR code pictured here, which will automatically split donations 50:50 between the two organisations.

The two would not have travelled far without the help of family, friends, community members and organisations across Australia who helped supply the necessary gear, food, accommodation, road support and more.
