Liberal member for Franklin Nic Street opens his Kingston office annually to donations for the Jireh House Winter Appeal, with this year’s drive once more a success.
“Each year my office is inundated with caring community members supporting the appeal; this year was no different,” Minister Street said.
“There are a lot more handmade blankets this year which shows how caring our community is and are willing to do what they can to help.
“The response for gift cards has been phenomenal, with more than $1150 donated.
“These donations will be appreciated and put to good use.”
Jireh provides crisis support and accommodation for around 90 women and 120 children each year who are homeless due to family violence, housing stress or other life events.
“The support this shelter provides is second to none and we’re really lucky to have them in our community,” Minister Street said.
This is the sixth year Minister Street’s office has been used as a collection point.
“Every year I’m reminded about the level of support people are willing to give to those in need.
“It is heart-warming and makes me proud to be a member of this community.
“Thank you to everyone who donated.”
A special acknowledgement to Bunnings Warehouse Kingston, Channel Court Shopping Centre, Lions Club of Kingborough, Priceline Channel Court and Boronia Trefoil Guild for their support of the appeal.
